Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu) Inc. donated 2,000 liters of oil dispersant worth P0.5 Million pesos to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), headed by Secretary Angelo Reyes. The said items was turn-over by THICI representatives headed by Mr. Clarence Martinez, and Mr. Delius Cueva, Security manager and Safety manager respectively and was received by Mr. Celso Loriega, Regional Director of DENR – VII. This was done last August 24, 2006 on-board one of the ships of Philippine Navy. The donated items was brought to Guimaras Island with the help of the Philippine Navy headed by Capt. Roberto Estioko, PN Commander, Naval Forces Central. The M/T Solar I which carried bunker fuel sunk in the waters southwest of Guimaras Island due to strong winds and big waves thus causing oil spill in the area. THICI’s concern to the environment prompted them to help the government by donating the said oil dispersant to DENR.
